Orji Kalu Says Nigeria’s Hardship Not Tinubu’s Fault, Backs Catholic Bishops’ Advice

Abia North Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has said the hardship and difficulties facing Nigerians are not the fault of President Bola Tinubu.

Kalu made the remarks in a viral social media video while reacting to the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria’s recent visit to the President at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. During the visit, the bishops expressed concerns over the state of the economy, insecurity and the political atmosphere.

After the meeting, Archbishop Emeritus of Abuja, Cardinal John Onaiyekan, disclosed on Arise Television’s Prime Time that Tinubu disagreed with the bishops’ assessment, insisting that his administration was on the right track.

Responding, Kalu described the Catholic bishops as the “conscience of the country” whose advice was neither for nor against any administration but aimed at helping the sitting president see the true situation.

“The Catholic bishops are the conscience of the country and once they give advice, their advice is not for or against, it’s just for any sitting President to see things the way it should be,” Kalu said.

“The Catholic bishops are aware of the situation in the country. There are real difficulties in Nigeria, but they are not President Tinubu’s fault.

“The Catholic bishops’ visit to President Tinubu is a good one, I support it because they are telling him the way it is.

“It promotes the president to work harder because the Catholic bishops are just telling him the way it is even if politicians are lying to him that things are good everywhere, they can never say that.

“Even if we politicians can lie to him, the bishops will tell him the truth about the current reality of the country.”
