Nigerian Army Arrests Soldier Over TikTok Appeal for Financial Assistance in Uniform.

The Nigerian Army has arrested one of its personnel after a viral TikTok video allegedly showed him soliciting financial assistance from a social media influencer while dressed in his military uniform, an act the Army says contravenes its code of conduct and professional ethics.

The soldier was identified following the widespread circulation of the video on social media, prompting military authorities to launch an internal investigation. After tracing his identity, he was taken into custody for questioning, while disciplinary procedures were initiated in line with military regulations.

According to reports, the soldier repeatedly appealed to the TikTok influencer for financial support during a live session, claiming he was experiencing financial hardship. The video quickly attracted widespread attention online, with many Nigerians expressing concern over the welfare of military personnel, while others criticised the use of military uniform in seeking public donations.

Reacting to the incident, the Nigerian Army confirmed the soldier’s arrest and stated that investigations into the matter are ongoing. The Army stressed that all personnel are expected to maintain the highest standards of discipline, integrity, and professionalism both on and off duty.

The military further warned that any action capable of bringing the Nigerian Army into disrepute would not be tolerated, reaffirming its commitment to enforcing discipline and preserving the image and reputation of the service.

The incident has continued to generate debate on social media, with some Nigerians calling for improved welfare for security personnel, while others insist that military officers must adhere strictly to established codes of conduct regardless of personal circumstances.
