Nigerian Legion Appeals for Patience Over Veterans’ Outstanding Entitlements.
The National Chairman of the Council of Nigeria Legion and Commandant, Corps of Commissioners, Grace Morenike Henry, has appealed to veterans of the Nigerian Armed Forces to remain patient with the Federal Government over outstanding entitlements and approved pension increases.
Henry made the appeal following the decision by the veterans to suspend their planned public protest, commending them for what she described as their peaceful and mature approach to the matter.
She said the Federal Government had assured veterans that all outstanding entitlements, including approved pension increases, would be fully paid.
According to her, the government places a high priority on the welfare of veterans and is working to complete the necessary administrative processes required to clear all benefits due to them.
The National Chairman also disclosed that efforts were underway to strengthen healthcare support for war-wounded veterans through strategic partnerships and international assistance.
She said interventions were being pursued to provide prosthetic limbs for amputees, hearing aids for veterans with auditory impairments, corrective eye surgeries, wheelchairs and other mobility aids for physically challenged veterans.
While acknowledging the sacrifices made by veterans in defending Nigeria and maintaining peace and security, Henry urged them to remain disciplined, orderly and law-abiding in accordance with the values of their military training.
She cautioned the veterans against allowing their community to be used to create civil unrest, assuring them that efforts were being made to address their concerns.
Henry appealed for continued loyalty, patience and understanding from the veterans, expressing optimism that the outstanding issues would soon be resolved.
