Tinubu appoints Abel Enitan as new head of civil service.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Mr Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan as the new Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF), effective August 27, 2026.
Enitan will succeed Mrs Didi Esther Walson-Jack, who is set to retire from the Federal Civil Service after attaining the statutory retirement age of 60.
The appointment was announced in a statement issued on Wednesday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
Enitan, who is from Osun State, is currently the Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Education and is the most senior Permanent Secretary in the Federal Civil Service.
He has served as a Permanent Secretary for seven years and seven months, during which he held responsibilities at the Ministry of Police Affairs, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and the Office of the Vice President.
With his extensive experience across key government institutions, Enitan is expected to bring substantial institutional knowledge to the leadership of the Federal Civil Service.
President Tinubu expressed appreciation to Walson-Jack for her service to the country, particularly her contributions to reforms, innovations and other developments recorded in the Civil Service during her tenure.
The President wished her a fulfilling post-retirement life and acknowledged her years of dedicated service to the nation.
Tinubu also charged Enitan to build on the reforms and innovations already underway in the Civil Service, while deepening professionalism, efficiency, accountability and responsiveness across the service.
The President further urged the incoming Head of Service to promote a merit-driven and innovative Civil Service capable of effectively supporting the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda and responding to the needs and aspirations of Nigerians.
Born on December 12, 1966, Enitan attended Ajibode Grammar School, Ibadan, and the College of Arts and Science, Ile-Ife.
He later proceeded to the University of Lagos, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and Banking in 1988. In 2015, he earned a Master of Science degree in Public Policy Analysis from Nasarawa State University, Lafia.
Enitan is expected to assume office on August 27, 2026, following the retirement of Walson-Jack.
