Momodu: Tinubu Biggest Loser in Osun Election, Result May Shape 2027.
African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain, Dele Momodu, has described President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the biggest loser in the recently concluded Osun State governorship election, saying the outcome could send a significant message to voters across Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Momodu made the remarks on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, August 17, 2026, while analysing the outcome of the election and its possible implications for Nigeria’s political landscape.
According to him, the result could influence voters in other parts of the country, particularly as political parties begin preparations for the 2027 elections.
Momodu claimed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) was concerned that the outcome of the Osun election could have a wider political effect, arguing that the result demonstrated that candidates could not rely solely on the popularity or influence of a sitting president.
He specifically identified President Tinubu as the major loser in the election, noting that APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji and former Osun State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola, were perceived to have relied heavily on the President’s name during their campaign.
“Without any doubt whatsoever, he (Tinubu) lost,” Momodu said.
The ADC chieftain argued that the election showed that voters could make their decisions based on the individual appeal and performance of candidates rather than presidential endorsement or federal backing.
He said the development should be carefully studied by political parties and candidates preparing for the 2027 general elections, stressing that the Osun outcome could serve as an indication of how voters may respond to political campaigns in the coming election cycle.
Momodu also commended the role played by social media during the Osun governorship election, particularly musician and businessman Davido, whose updates on developments during the poll, he said, helped keep members of the public informed.
The comments come after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke the winner of the Osun State governorship election.
The election has since generated reactions across the political divide, with opposition figures and supporters of different parties interpreting the result as a potential indicator of the political mood ahead of the 2027 general elections.
