Labour Party Urges Peaceful, Issue-Based Campaigns As National Assembly Race Begins In Abia.

The Abia State Chapter of the Labour Party has called on its National Assembly candidates, leaders, members and supporters to conduct their campaigns peacefully and responsibly, with emphasis on issues, policies and the welfare of the people.

In a statement issued by the Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, Abia State Chapter, Iroegbu Emenike, the State Chairman, Hon. Peter Azubuike, said the commencement of the National Assembly campaign on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, was in line with the timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Azubuike urged all Labour Party candidates and members to respect the electoral laws and guidelines issued by INEC, stressing the importance of discipline and responsible conduct throughout the campaign period.

He specifically charged the party’s National Assembly candidates to focus their campaigns on competence, experience, records of service, ideas and programmes that would benefit the people.

According to him, candidates should use the campaign period to explain their legislative priorities to the electorate and outline how they intend to attract development, federal interventions and opportunities to their respective constituencies.

The Labour Party chairman described the party’s National Assembly candidates as credible and capable individuals with the capacity to provide effective representation if elected.

He also expressed confidence that the party’s lawmakers would work with Governor Alex C. Otti and other relevant stakeholders to support policies and initiatives aimed at advancing the development of Abia State.

Azubuike appealed to Abians to support the Labour Party’s National Assembly candidates, stressing that effective representation at the federal level would complement the developmental efforts of the state government.

He noted that lawmakers have important responsibilities through quality legislation, effective oversight, constituency representation and the attraction of appropriate federal interventions to their constituencies.

The chairman further assured residents that the Labour Party leadership in Abia would continue to provide relevant information about its candidates, their records, programmes and legislative priorities throughout the campaign period.

He said the objective was to ensure that voters have sufficient information to assess the candidates and make informed decisions at the polls.

Azubuike also called on Labour Party members and supporters to remain united, peaceful and disciplined, urging them to demonstrate the values of the party through the quality of their campaigns and respect for the democratic process.

He equally appealed to other political parties, candidates and stakeholders to make the campaign period an opportunity for constructive debate, peaceful participation and the presentation of practical ideas on how to move Abia State and Nigeria forward.
