Abia Government to Commission 20 Additional Electric Buses, Expands Green Shuttle Fleet to 40.
The Abia State Government has announced plans to commission 20 additional brand-new electric buses under the Abia Green Shuttle Service, in a move aimed at further strengthening the state’s public transportation system.
The commissioning ceremony is scheduled to take place on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at the Prof. Nnenna Oti Bus Terminal, Isi Gate, Umuahia North Local Government Area, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
According to a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, the new buses form part of Governor Dr. Alex Chioma Otti’s, OFR, administration’s commitment to providing safe, affordable, efficient, and environmentally friendly transportation for residents of the state.
The latest addition will increase the Abia Green Shuttle fleet from 20 to 40 electric buses, marking another milestone in the state’s ongoing transport transformation programme.
The government noted that the transport reform initiative also includes the construction of modern bus terminals and sustained investments in rail, aviation, and seaport infrastructure to enhance connectivity, promote sustainable economic growth, and improve the movement of people and goods across the state.
Residents, stakeholders, and invited guests have been encouraged to attend the commissioning ceremony, while invited dignitaries have been advised to be seated before the arrival of Governor Alex Otti.
