Obi Donates ₦10m to Nsukka Nursing School, Visits Attack Victims in Benue

The National Democratic Congress NDC presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, has donated an additional ₦10 million to the School of Nursing, Nsukka, Enugu State.

Obi, who visited the institution on Friday, has supported the School of Nursing with more than ₦150 million in various donations since its establishment.

The latest contribution, according to him, was in continuation of his commitment to institutions promoting healthcare, education and poverty reduction.

Obi said investment in education and healthcare remained critical to building a better society, stressing that resources should be channelled towards improving the welfare of Nigerians rather than what he described as unnecessary government expenditure.

The former governor also expressed concern over the country’s inadequate kidney-care infrastructure.

Speaking after he visited Parklane Hospital in Enugu, where he met patients undergoing treatment for kidney-related ailments, Obi said Nigeria had fewer than 10 per cent of the kidney machines required to meet the country’s needs.

“Yesterday, I was at Parklane Hospital in Enugu, where I saw nearly a thousand people battling kidney problems. Nobody seems to care about them, but we politicians are busy wasting our resources, using public funds to buy houses all over the world and doing things we don’t need, as if God created only us. We have less than 10% of the kidney machines in Nigeria. This is something Nigeria can easily afford, but we have money to waste.”

He criticised the alleged wastage of public resources, arguing that more attention should be given to healthcare and other areas that directly affect citizens.
