Adeleke: I don’t have money for vote-buying ahead of Osun election.

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has said his administration lacks the financial resources to engage in vote-buying ahead of the August 15 governorship election, insisting that he does not need to buy votes to secure re-election.

Adeleke said the state government has been deploying its available resources to pay local government workers, whose allocations he claimed have been withheld for almost two years.

According to the governor, the financial situation has significantly constrained the administration’s resources, making vote-buying impracticable.

Adeleke expressed confidence that his administration’s performance would earn him the support of voters at the polls, saying the people of Osun would judge his government based on its record in office.

He also pointed to the palliatives provided to workers since 2023, saying such interventions demonstrate his administration’s commitment to the welfare of residents.

The governor urged Osun residents not to allow themselves to be intimidated or discouraged from participating in the election. He called on eligible voters to come out and exercise their constitutional right to vote.

His comments come as political activities intensify ahead of Saturday’s governorship election, with major contenders seeking to secure the mandate of Osun voters.

The election is being closely watched amid concerns over alleged vote-buying, political violence and the credibility of the electoral process.

Adeleke is seeking re-election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, against major challengers including the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, and African Democratic Congress, ADC, candidate, Najeem Salaam.

The governor maintained that his administration’s record, rather than financial inducements, should determine the choice of voters at the election.
