Rivers Government Dismisses Claims of Rift Between Fubara and Assembly Over 2026 Budget.

The Rivers State Government has dismissed reports suggesting a disagreement between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly over the state’s 2026 Appropriation Bill.

The government, in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi, said Governor Fubara was not at loggerheads with the lawmakers, but was working closely with the House of Assembly in the interest of the people of Rivers State.

According to the statement, the 2026 budget proposal has already been presented before the House of Assembly and is currently undergoing the normal legislative process.

The government expressed confidence that the lawmakers would complete the legislative process and pass the appropriation bill.

It noted that Rivers State had experienced difficult times in the past and stressed that the government was not prepared to allow the state to be dragged into another round of controversies capable of undermining peace and development.

The statement also appealed to individuals and groups promoting what it described as negative narratives to desist from such actions, emphasizing the need for peace, stability and cooperation between the executive and legislative arms of government.

The Rivers State Government maintained that continued harmony among stakeholders remains essential to sustaining the steady development of the state and improving the welfare of its people.
