An Owaza International business man,Elder Victor KN, popularly known as Osinanwata,has hailed what he described as a major milestone in the political history of Ukwa East and Ukwa West Federal Constituency, following the emergence of Asa-born candidates for the 2027 House of Representatives election. He also congratulated Chief Barr. Samuel Okezie Nwogu on his emergence as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, describing it as a victory for equity and the people of Asa after about 20 years of political exclusion.

In a statement released on Saturday, Elder Victor said the development was the outcome of months of advocacy by himself and other progressives who consistently campaigned for equity, fairness and inclusiveness in the politics of the federal constituency.

According to him, the struggle for equitable representation came at a personal cost, as he confronted influential political figures, rejected political offers and remained committed to ensuring that the agitation for the return of the House of Representatives seat to Asa was not abandoned.

He noted that the people of Asa had remained without representation in the Green Chamber for about 20 years, insisting that political power in the constituency should rotate fairly between Ukwa East and Ukwa West in the interest of justice and unity.

“For over two decades, the people of Asa waited patiently for fairness in the sharing of the House of Representatives seat. Today, that hope has been restored. This is a victory for equity, justice and democracy, not for any individual,” Elder Victor said.

Elder Victor also criticised the performance of the incumbent member representing Ukwa East/Ukwa West Federal Constituency, Hon. Chris Nkwonta, alleging that several promises made to constituents were not fulfilled while concerns over constituency projects and accountability were ignored. He further claimed that individuals who questioned some of the projects were subjected to intimidation and legal actions.

He commended Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, for supporting what he described as the principle of equity by ensuring that the Labour Party produced Hon. Adinigwe Nwoke, an indigene of Owaza in Ukwa West, as its House of Representatives candidate.

The businessman also acknowledged the efforts of the New Ukwa Progressive Initiative (NUPI), saying members of the group embarked on sustained advocacy through petitions, consultations and engagements with relevant authorities, including the Presidency, to push for the restoration of the seat to Ukwa West.

Congratulating Chief Barr. Samuel Okezie Nwogu on his emergence as the APC candidate, Elder Victor described the victory as well deserved and a triumph for equity, perseverance and the Asa Agenda.

“I congratulate Chief Barr. Samuel Okezie Nwogu on becoming the APC candidate. I pray that God grants him wisdom, strength and good health throughout this journey. Ultimately, the people of Ukwa East and Ukwa West will decide who represents them, and whoever emerges must remain accountable to the electorate because no one is greater than the people,” he added.

He said Nwogu’s emergence, having been officially published by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the APC candidate, has restored hope to many people in Asa who had long yearned to see the federal constituency seat return to Ukwa West.

According to him, the emergence of Chief Barr. Samuel Okezie Nwogu, Hon. Adinigwe Nwoke and other Asa-born contenders means the people of Ukwa East and Ukwa West now have the opportunity to elect from among qualified sons of Asa.

He urged residents of the federal constituency to participate actively in the 2027 general election by voting peacefully and responsibly while continuing to demand transparency, accountability and quality representation from whoever is elected.
