“God Sent Me To Tell South-East That Tinubu Has Good Intentions For The Region”— Umahi.
Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has said he believes God sent him to assure people of the South-East that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has good intentions for the region.
Umahi, a former governor of Ebonyi State, made the assertion while defending the Federal Government’s infrastructure projects across the South-East. He urged residents of the region to pay greater attention to the ongoing development projects under the Tinubu administration.
The Minister cited major federal road projects, including the Enugu–Onitsha Expressway and the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway, as evidence of what he described as the President’s commitment to the development of the South-East.
According to Umahi, the performance of the Federal Government should not be assessed solely on the basis of political appointments, but also on infrastructure, economic development and other projects being executed across the region.
He has also repeatedly called on people of the South-East to support President Tinubu, particularly ahead of the 2027 presidential election. In previous remarks, Umahi described Tinubu as “God sent” and argued that the region should reciprocate the administration’s developmental efforts with political support.
The Minister’s position comes amid an ongoing debate over the level of attention being given to the South-East by the Federal Government. While Umahi has dismissed claims that the region is currently being marginalised, he has acknowledged the historical grievances of the people and maintained that the ongoing infrastructure projects represent a significant shift.
Umahi therefore urged South-East residents to look beyond political sentiments and consider the impact of federal projects on the region’s economy and connectivity.
He maintained that continued support for the Tinubu administration would, in his view, help attract more federal projects and development to the South-East.
The Minister’s comments are expected to further fuel discussions across the region over the Tinubu administration’s performance, infrastructure investments and the political choices facing South-East voters ahead of the 2027 general elections.
