“Catholic Bishops Are Not ‘Agbado’ & Fake Bishops” – Activist Paul Blasts Presidency

A human rights activist and author, Comrade Paul Njoku, has berated the presidency for the cautious narrative by the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communications, Daniel Bwala, against Nigerian Catholic Bishops who recently paid a courtesy visit to the President concerning the state of the nation, adding that Catholic Bishops are not ‘Agbado’ and fake Bishops that should be insulted and denigrated by the presidency.

Njoku, who thrown its weight behind the Catholic Bishops warned the presidency against undermining Christian unity.

Recall that Catholic Bishops recently met with President Tinubu during which they expressed concern over the economic situation in the country. Mr. Bwala, however granted a media interview dismissing the bishops’ position that they did not represent the Christian community.

The presidential spokesman insisted in the media interview that the bishops only represented the Catholic community and that their views were unfair to President Tinubu.

Reacting, Comrade Paul in a statement on Sunday August 2, stressed that the Catholic Bishops who met with the President spoke on issues affecting not only Catholics but also Christians and Nigerians in general.

“Their message are of national interest, humanity and good governance”, Njoku stated.

The rights activist in his statement, decried it unacceptable to allow anyone create division within the Christian and Catholic community for political reasons and in the name of denigrating Catholic Bishops.

“You can’t oppress and intimidate Catholic Bishops because they are not ‘Agbado’ and fake Bishops. They are universal institutions.

Comrade Njoku, further warned that any government official who chooses propaganda over addressing the genuine concerns of citizens was doing more harm than good to the nation.

According to him, public office holders who ignore the realities facing Nigerians in pursuit of personal or political interests should be seen as contributing to the country’s challenges rather than helping to solve them, noting that unless the country’s challenges were addressed, all Nigerians, irrespective of political affiliation, would bear the consequences.

Njoku, reaffirmed its confidence in the Catholic Bishops, describing them as patriotic leaders whose intervention was motivated by genuine concern for both President Tinubu and the nation, calling on political office holders to pay greater attention to the substance of the concerns raised by the religious leaders and other stakeholders rather than resorting to comments capable of creating unnecessary divisions among Nigerians.
