Cameroon Arrests 23-Year-Old With Large Cache Of Ammunition Near Nigeria Border.
Cameroonian security authorities have arrested a 23-year-old man identified as Moussa Ngoudja after allegedly finding him with several rounds of 7.62mm ammunition concealed in three containers near the Nigeria-Cameroon border in the Far North Region.
Ngoudja, a Cameroonian from Sueram in Fotokol, was reportedly arrested at about 6:30 a.m. on August 9 during a security operation by members of the Vigilance Committee in Dougoumslio Slio Village. He was intercepted while riding a Boxer motorcycle with the ammunition.
Preliminary investigations reportedly indicated that Ngoudja told investigators he collected the ammunition from Mada in Makary and was transporting it to Mdego Village in Fotokol, both in Cameroon. Authorities are investigating how he obtained the ammunition and whether other people or a wider trafficking network were involved.
The arrest has raised security concerns because the area is close to Gamboru in Nigeria’s Borno State and is part of the Lake Chad Basin, where terrorist and criminal networks operate. Ngoudja is currently being held at the Hilé Alifa Gendarmerie Brigade as investigations continue.
